Shamanic Dreaming: Exploring the Inner Worlds

Starts Saturday February 22nd and meets for 6 weeks

Course Overview:

This six-week course on Shamanic Dreaming invites participants to explore the rich world of dreams as a source of personal insight, healing, and connection with the deeper layers of consciousness. Throughout the course, we will investigate various dreaming methods and traditions from around the world, examine archetypes within dreams, and develop lucid dreaming techniques. Understanding the importance of our dreaming process will be a central theme, guiding us toward deeper self-awareness and spiritual growth. The course will balance practical dreaming exercises with theoretical exploration, helping participants develop personal dreaming practices that enhance their lives both spiritually and psychologically.




Week-by-Week Outline:

Week 1: Introduction to Shamanic Dreaming and Archetypes

Overview of shamanic dreaming traditions

Understanding the role of the shaman in dreamwork

Exploration of Jungian archetypes (the Hero, Shadow, Anima/Animus, etc.) in dreams

Introduction to the idea of dreams as bridges between worlds

Practical exercise: Dream journaling and identifying archetypal patterns


Week 2: Dreaming Methods from Around the World

Examination of global dream traditions (e.g., Indigenous, Aboriginal, Tibetan, and others)

Techniques for inducing dreams in different cultures (vision quests, dream incubation, plant medicine, etc.)

The role of the environment and ritual in dream practices

Practical exercise: Developing a dream incubation ritual


Week 3: The Science and Art of Lucid Dreaming

Understanding the phases of sleep and their connection to dream states

Techniques for inducing lucid dreams (reality checks, meditation, wake-initiated lucid dreaming)

The significance of becoming a conscious dreamer and the shaman’s role in lucid dreams

Practical exercise: Step-by-step guide to inducing lucid dreams and dream recall techniques


Week 4: The Importance of Understanding Our Dreaming Process

Why dreams matter: psychological, spiritual, and emotional benefits

Dreams as tools for healing, guidance, and growth

Navigating nightmares and shadow work in dreams

Dream symbols, personal meaning vs. universal meaning

Practical exercise: Identifying and working with recurring dream themes


Week 5: Exploring Dreaming Methods and Techniques

Advanced dream techniques (dream reentry, collective dreaming, dream sharing)

The role of dream guides and animal spirits in shamanic traditions

Using dreaming to engage with ancestral and future wisdom

Practical exercise: Journeying through dream reentry and meeting a dream guide


Week 6: Developing a Personal Dreaming Practice

Synthesizing the learning and methods from the course

Creating a personalized dream practice: setting intentions, cultivating rituals, and integrating dream messages into daily life

The role of community in dreamwork: how to engage in dream circles and dream sharing

Closing ceremony and guided meditation to connect with personal dream space

Practical exercise: Crafting a personal dreamwork plan for the future

Format:

Each class will include a combination of lecture, guided meditation, dream practice exercises, and group discussion. Participants will be encouraged to keep a dream journal throughout the course to document their experiences and insights.

This course will meet weekly for 1.5 hours on Zoom. Participants will also have access to additional resources and dreamwork guides between sessions.
