This gallery is a recent re-make of a large leather journal I’ve had in my studio.. The red whale idea for this piece came from a of scrap red leather that had the shape of a whale. After disassembling the origin journal I had made several years ago. I then proceeded to sew the red leather whale on to the journal cover. I also added drawing paper, Japanese Tomoe River writing paper, and other kinds of archival papers.

For me the creation of books is a marriage of my two favorite things: books and what we put in books like words and art….
